Breeds of chickens

These are only some of the breeds, there are many more.

Light Sussex

Picture
Light Sussex Chickens. These are very good layers of average sized white shelled eggs and can also make goos table birds. These are very good layers of about 200 eggs per year and can sometimes go broody.

Rhode Island Red

Picture
The rhode island red are a very good laying hen and can also make good broody hens, they are avaible almost all year round.

Chocolate Orpington

Picture
quite a common breed and kept for show, an average layer of eggs.

Blue laced Wyandotte

Picture
These are the blue laced wyandotte, thay are a very rare breed of chicken and can also make a very good layer of about 150 light brown eggs, although the eggs are on the small side, they do make very good broody hens, chicks do take time to grow, but are worth keeping for there pure beauty, they can be used as show birds. I don't have these all year round as they dont lay consistently. They will lay about 4 to 5 eggs per week. I do charge more for these as they are a very rare breed.

Silkies

Picture
These are a very unusual looking breed of chicken and can be compared to a ball of fluff, they are not used for there laying ability, because they spend so much time of the year been broody, this eats into there laying ability, they come in many different colours including white, blue, gold, patridge and black. There is the bantam and the large fowl version. They are avaible most of the time. If you chose not to let them hatch they can lay about 100 white eggs a year, but a very small and round.

Cuckoo Silkies

Average Layer, good broody.

Golden Brahma

Picture
These are stuning birds, mainly for show, though they do make good broodys and can cover alot of eggs, they can take along time to mature. They make very  bad layers  and only lay about 3 or 4 eggs a week, even that. They are a very rare breed and come in many different colours like black, blue, patridge and lemon pyle and many more.

Patridge Wyandotte

Picture
The patridge wyandotte are like the blue laced wyandotte, the is'nt much difference only the slight variation in colour.

Buff Orpington

Picture
These are a beutiful show bird, though they do not make a very good layer. These were at one time a very rare breed, but now have picked up and are not to hard to find. They do make good mothers and those eggs that are layed are average size and lightly brown tinted. The male is the same colour of the hen but larger with a longer tale. They do however take a long time to grow to full maturity.

Speckled Sussex

Picture
The speckled sussex are a good layer, but they don't match up to the light sussex standerds, they do however make better broodys and are classified as a rare breed.
